CANYON, Texas –West Texas A&M has partnered with former Texas State head lacrosse coach and Amarillo resident Kyle Northrup to bring lacrosse to the Texas Panhandle for a weekend tournament.
West Texas A&M will be the site of the "West Texas Showcase" an unprecedented event Feb. 21-22 at The Pitch. Texas State University, along with the previous two MCLA national champions in University of Colorado and Colorado State University, and the University of Connecticut will showcase their skills in four matches over the two days.In addition, there will be a free clinic in between the two games on Saturday for youngsters to learn the sport of lacrosse. Texas State will battle Colorado at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. The free clinic will be at 1:30 p.m., followed by UConn versus Colorado State at 2:30 p.m. Sunday's action begins at 10:30 a.m. as UConn takes on Colorado, while Texas State faces off with Colorado State at 1 p.m. There will be merchandise for sale, along with tournament T-Shirts.
"2015 affords our program the opportunity to play tough opponents on the road all over the state of Texas," Texas State head men's lacrosse coach Kyle Saunders said in the programs schedule news release. "With road games in Houston, Dallas, Austin, College Station and our first time in West Texas, we should be ready to compete at away venues come tournament time." The event is free and open to the public. Come out and enjoy a fun weekend learning the sport of lacrosse.
